Accelerated Reader Program

Imagine students asking to take a test!?!?!? Accelerated Reader software has students reading, taking tests, and loving it!!! Students come to the library asking for Accelerated Reader books. They take pride in passing tests and earning certificates and prizes. They love when their classmates cheer for them. Accelerated Reader is a curriculum based program used to assess student's reading comprehension on the books that they choose to read. Students will read and enjoy reading when they can choose their own books. Our library has many titles available to students, with more being added each year. Students who read will develop and strengthen their comprehensive skills. After reading an Accelerated Reader book, students take a multiple choice test on the computer. AR has been installed on our server and can be accessed from any classroom computer as well as from the technology lab and library. AR also keeps a record of all the books the student has read. As the students read the books, they strive to meet a level of certification and receive a prize for each level that they succeed in. Below are listed the various levels and their qualifications.

"Reading is a skill like any other. In order to see improvements in reading achievement, it is critical that students practice. From emergent readers through about third grade students must read early and often to ensure they learn to read, while in fourth grade and beyond extensive reading practice helps students hone this skill and read to learn. It is only through reading lots and lots of books that students can truly develop this essential skill while increasing their vocabulary and knowledge of the world around them.
