I taught Physical Education in upstate New York for 30 years always enjoying the energy of my students. During the past few years I began developing a “car” theme to help encourage children to learn about healthy “fuels” to put into their engines. I never dreamt it would lead to the formation of Healthy Highway. My passion for children and the fun I had with the traffic theme easily took me down this new road and I am very excited about the possibilities. Children easily imagine their bodies as “engines”. They recognize traffic signs, thereby making the connection to healthy slogans easily attainable. The program carries over into the entire school, with connections to the cafeteria, the nurse, and each classroom. Families enjoy learning what foods are red, yellow, or green light foods.
I am especially proud of Healthy Highway since it was truly a labor of love, with both of my daughters lending a hand with their outstanding creativity to make this actually happen.
I would love hearing about your new “adventures” as you continue to drive down more roads to a healthy lifestyle. You can email me at WCooper@healthy-highway.com .
