Happy February! We have finished our first second grade reader and have begun working in the second reader. The children are making good progress in reading this year! They are also doing a fantastic job with the A/R reading (enrichment) program. The entire class has reached the second level! Thank you for encouraging them at home! On Tuesday, February 7th Leah and Kathy from "Get it Straight" dental came to visit first and second grades for a fun presentation about dental health. I will post some cute photos from her visit to second grade in our photo gallery. (It may take a day or two, the photos have to be resized and loaded and it takes awhile to do). In math, we continue with addition, subtraction, fractions (one half, one third, one fourth, one sixth...), telling time to the hour and the half hour, counting dimes, nickels and pennies, word problems, and measurement. Our addition facts worksheets and assessments now contain 100 facts on each page! In Social studies we have begun a new unit about local, state and federal government. We are also working on our President reports- which will be presented to the other classes on February 10th. In Science, we are beginning a unit on the properties of matter. Congratulations to the second graders who has met my "healthy" snack challenge for November and December. Each day we tallied the number of healthy snacks that the children brought to school. During both of the months, they exceeded the 100 healthy snacks goal. In November they earned "Healthy Hero" bracelets and in December they received pedometers from Mr. K. Due to the childrens' enthusiasm, we will continue to keep track of our health snack choices! Thanks for your support! Some Special Dates to Remember...
