Character Development & Counselor Guidance News Pink's School Wide Character Program 'Cool Kids'

Here are some COOL things we are doing at Pink!

“At a training I led at Pink Elementary in the Frisco ISD I learned about how they are targeting behavior in the school's common areas to encourage positive behavior to help create a positive school climate.”     –by Dr. Brad

“Pink’s PAWS Program” is one of the ways we address the need for expectations and positive reinforcement in the common areas on campus.  Our PAWS committee worked very hard over the summer and last year to develop and implement this school wide program.  Pink has common expectations for the halls, cafeteria, playground, and restrooms.  The expectations are displayed throughout the school stating what the look like and sound like.  The kids get reinforced for following the expectations.  We are so PROUD of our students doing the right thing and having big smiles on their faces!

As part of developing the whole child, we always have a school wide character development program to foster and reinforce core character skills.

Pink's developmental guidance program is designed based upon the framework outlined by Texas' school counseling curriculum.  We focus as a school on specific character skills each month, targeting specific health TEKS.  Please click on the attachments below to view Pink's monthly character skills and specific goals they meet.

This year, we are implementing the Cool Kids Character Program developed by Dr. Brad Scwhall. Dr. Brad created and wrote Cool Kids. Through his experience in counseling parents and children and leading workshops for parents, counselors, and teachers, he saw the need for an interactive program that teaches children social and emotional skills.  Dr. Brad has been providing counseling, leading social and emotional skills classes for children, training counselors and educators, and facilitating parenting workshops for over 16 years.
