Welcome to Pink's Counselor Website!

My name is Sheri Douglas and I am Pink Elementary's School Counselor and Testing Coordinator.  I have had the privilege of being at Pink since the school opened!  Please feel free to browse the site for additional resources.

This is my sixteenth year as an educator, with thirteen of those serving as a school counselor.  I taught Elementary and Middle School before becoming a school counselor.  As the counselor at Pink Elementary, I have a variety of roles throughout the school.  Below is an overview of some of the primary roles.  I do have other responsibilities and to view those, go to the Counselor Responsibilities Page on my site for more details.

One role of the counselor is teaching character development to our students.   The lessons are designed to help develop the skills children need to help get along with others as well as make tough decisions confronting them daily.  Topics are planned to meet specific objectives set by  Texas' & FISD's school counseling developmental guidance program.  Each month a new character skill is introduced through a book, playing a game, activities, and/or group discussion.  I will visit the students during their computer specials rotation once a month for approximately 30-45 minutes.

Another role is facilitating SMALL GROUP guidance.  Students are referred by teachers and parents based on need for group support.  At Pink, I offer Kids Connections Groups, which are self-esteem building groups.  Groups may be formed based on need of dealing with social skills, divorce, anger management just to name a few.  Small Group Roundup letters will be sent out the second week in September to parents & teachers for students to participate.  The groups are open groups, so students may be referred as needed.

Students may be referred to me for INDIVIDUAL guidance if they are having emotional or social challenges that are effecting their education.  The role of the school counselor is to help that student cope with the current situation, so they will be able to be successful in the classroom.  In FISD, school counselors do not work with students one-on-one in a therapy/clinical role.  Sometimes working with an individual student can take a couple of sessions, but I will notify the parents when I see a student more than one time and will obtain permission.  If you would like more in-depth counseling or therapy, FISD has a list of counselors/therapists that you may request from me.  When you make the request, I will send you a form to sign.  Once I receive the signed form, then I will send the list .  FISD or Pink does not endorse or recommend any counselor(s) and we are not authorized to make such recommendations.

I am also responsible for all standardized and state TESTING. What this means is that I organize, coordinate, train, collect, and finally distribute the results from the testing that will be done at a variety of grade levels. (See Testing Page for specific dates)

Throughout the year, Pink will participate in monthly parent seminars, Rachel’s Challenge, College Week, Red Ribbon Week, Angel Tree Gift Collection, and the Food Drive.  Information and dates are communicated to parents closer to that time.  I will send home information via e-mail in order to support our goal to go green.

**  FISD offers a series parent education classes.  You may click on the parent resource tab on my site to find those dates, go to the Pink Web under parent classes, or the FISD under student services has the dates listed.

My personal goal as a school counselor is to provide a warm and safe environment where each person can learn to love who they are, and to facilitate those coping skills needed for everyday life.  Each day is a new day.  We want our students to know that we care about them as a person; that they are valued.

 Your Truly,

Mrs. Douglas
