Welcome to my Counselor Website! SPECIAL NOTE: Thank you to everyone at Pink for donating so many gifts to the Angel Tree Gift Drive. We had 20 bikes and so many gifts...it was amazing! Also, Instead of a book exchange at the winter parties in December, our students donated items in need to the food pantry in Frisco. Kinder and First-shampoo and conditioner, Second and Third-toothpaste and toothbrushes, and Fourth-1 lb. bags of dried beans, Fifth-toilet paper/paper products. They were very thankful! My name is Sheri Douglas and I am Pink Elementary's School Counselor. I have had the privilege of being at Pink since the school opened. This is my fourteenth year in education and my eleventh year as a school counselor. I taught Elementary and Middle School before becoming a school counselor. As the counselor at Pink Elementary, I have a variety of roles throughout the school. Below is an overview of some of the primary roles. I do have other responsibilities and to view those, go to the Counselor Responsibilities Page on my site for more detail. One role of the counselor is teaching CLASSROOM GUIDANCE. Classroom guidance takes place when I go to classrooms K-5 and teach lessons that develop the skills children need to help get along with others as well as make tough decisions confronting them daily. Guidance lesson topics are planned based on the school counseling developmental guidance program. Each lesson is approximately 30 minutes and is introduced through a book, playing a game, activities, and/or group discussion. My plan is to visit each grade level once a month except for TAKS testing months. Please feel free to view the Classroom Guidance Page on this website for specific dates and more information. Another role is facilitating SMALL GROUP guidance. Students are referred by teachers and parents based on need for group support. This year we are going to have Kids Connections Groups, which are self-esteem building groups. Groups may be formed based on need of dealing with social skills, grief, divorce, anger management just to name a few. Alicia Cobb, Pink's counseling intern, will assist in faciliting these small groups. We are so lucky to have her this year, especially with 800 plus students! She is wonderful and has many years of experience working with children of all ages. Students are referred to me if they are having emotional or social challenges that are effecting their education. The role of the school counselor is to help that student cope with the current situation, so they will be able to be successful in the classroom. In FISD, school counselors do not work with students one-on-one in a therapy/clinical role. Sometimes working with an individual student can take a couple of sessions, but I will notify the parents when I see a student more than one time and will obtain permission. If you would like more in-depth counseling or therapy, FISD has a list of counselors/therapists that I can give you or go to the Individual Counseling page on this site for that list. FISD or Pink does not endorse or recommend any counselor(s) and we are not authorized to make such recommendations. I am also responsible for all standardized and state TESTING. What this means is that I organize, coordinate, train, collect, and finally distribute the results from the testing that will be done at a variety of grade levels. (See Testing Page for specific dates) Throughout the year, we will have Parent seminars, College Week, Red Ribbon Week, Angel Tree Gift Collection, and the Food Drive. Information and dates are communicated to parents closer to that time. I will send home information via e-mail in order to support our goal to go green. My personal goal as a school counselor is to provide a warm and safe environment where each person can learn to love who they are and to facilitate those coping skills needed for every day life. Each day is a new day. We want our students to know that we care about them as a person; that they are valued. Yours Truly, Mrs. Douglas
