Course Outline: This course is designed to help students strengthen their mathematical skills through application of mathematical concepts to real-world activities and prepare them for the post-secondary world.

Semester One:

      Chapter Two: 

ü      Review skills needed to analyze data from a table, a graph, an equation and/or a situation.

ü      Collect data relating forearm length to height.

ü      Practice using graphic analysis vocabulary in context

ü      Review skills needed for statistical analysis.

ü      New skills: learn how to find the linear regression to calculate trend lines.

ü      Collect data on the relationship between head length and height.

ü      Practice using statistical analysis vocabulary in context.

       Practice summarizing data in sentence form.

 

Chapter Three: 

ü      Review skills needed to solve a system of equations from tables, graphs, equations, and/or 

       situations.

ü      Examine employee salary structures.

ü      Examine cost vs. income for a business.

ü      Examine cost-effectiveness of purchasing options.

ü      New skills: using calculator matrices to solve systems of equations; finding feasible regions.

 

      Chapter Six:

  ü      Exponential Functions: Story of Repeated Multiplication

  ü      Inverse Functions: the Square Root Function
