Welcome to Social Studies 7: Mr. Farley's class

What will we study? We will study United States history and geography up to the Civil War and the period of Recontruction. There will be a chapter-by-chapter course syllabus at the classroom website.
What supplies will I need?
- 3 ring binder (2 inch) with loose-leaf paper and a notebook.
- 3 dividers.
- pen/pencil to class everyday.
- Student planner to mark down assignments & due dates.
- I will issue a textbook which will be brought to class everyday.
- I will also hand out a folder to store DBQ essays we will write throughout the year. This will follow you to 8th grade. You are responsible for maintaining it.
- Colored pencils for home use (1 provide a set for class).
What are the class rules?
- Be in your seat when the bell rings.
- Come to class prepared.
- When the bell rings, it is Quiet time.
- Treat all others and property in the classroom with respect.
- Swearing is not tolerated. Offenders will choose to do push-ups or sit-ups, I will choose the number to complete.

How will I be graded?
- Vocabulary quizzes/other quizzes-20% of your grade
- Projects (book reports 1 per Marking Period)-25% of your grade
- Chapter Test-25% of your grade
- Homework (not graded)-8% of your grade
- Homework (graded)-15% of your grade
- Class participartion-7% of your grade
Homework: Generally, one or two homework assignments may be collected at random per week. Sometimes they will be graded or given an "effort" grade. If you are absent, you have the number of days you were absent to hand in any missing assignments.

Student Responsibilities:
- Come to class prepared & ready to learn with a positive attitude
- Do all assignments that are assigned and turn them in on time!!!
- Study for exams
- See Mr. Farley for help when something is unclear. Available hours will be posted both in the classroom and on the website.
If you are absent it is your responsibility:
- Get all missed notes from a classmate
- If you miss a movie in class, make sure you make it up
- Make up missed homework assignments
- If you are absent the day of a test, expect to take the test after school upon your return.
