Welcome to math class!! Mathematics is the ability to lie, cheat, steal, and get away with it. In no other class will you be able to do this. Math allows you to manipulate things without really changing them.... hence your ability to lie, cheat, and steal without getting caught. Statistics is the branch of mathematics that deals with the "art" of conducting studies to collect, organize, summarize, analyze and draw conclusions from data. This is the textbook definition of Statistics. Statistics is really the study of life. It is the study of the world around us. Statistics are everywhere. They affect us daily and sometimes can determine our future. By studying statistics you will learn how studies are conducted, and life saving decisions are made. Some of these decisions may be whether or not new cholestrol lowering drugs are effective; if consumers prefer a certain flavor of fruit soda over another; and whether or not the AP Exam review offered on Saturdays helped to increase AP scores. Algebra is a branch of mathematics that substitutes letters for numbers. An algebraic equation represents a scale, what is done on one side of the scale with a number is also done to the other side of the scale. The numbers are the constants. Algebra can include real numbers, complex numbers, matrices, vectors etc. Again, another textbook definition. Algebra is what opens the door to your future. Algebra can help you to decide what track you need to take in college. It can help you determine how your satellite dish works and how much your total bill will be, including the 15% tip. Finally, it opens the door to Calculus and Statistics. I hope you find this website useful. On this site you will be able to download lecture notes, and get all assignments.
