February

February is going to be a very busy month in the art room!  Kindergarten will be getting a lot of fine motor practice by making a paper sculpture and creating a snowman collage.  First grade is finishing a short unit dealing with symmetry and will next move on to discuss warm and cool colours with a holiday theme.  Second grade is starting a painting unit, including a winter landscape and using children’s book illustrations for ideas. They should look fantastic when finished!

Third grade has been working to finish an oil pastel project creating a beautiful holiday heart. Fourth grade has finished painting a  Buddhist-inspired Mandala and is writing a short paragraph explaining their piece.  They will next do a painting project and write a haiku poem to complement the painting.  Fifth grade is finishing their warm and cool flower painting collage and will next begin work on a piece inspired by Pablo Picasso’s cubist works.

Sixth grade is finishing their Egyptian coffins and will soon begin work on practicing one-point perspective.  Seventh grade is in the middle of a calligraphy project.  They are hard at work perfecting their skills using calligraphy markers.  Eighth grade has finished drawing an animal that naturally camouflages itself in nature and have started drawing faces showing a range of emotions.  These should be quite interesting to see when done.

As always, I’m trying to keep up with posting images on the webpage.  Check the Art Room Page every so often to see new work from the talented students of St. Mary’s!
