"The Old Woman in the Woods" Organizer

Summary:

A girl traveling with the family she worked for was attached by robbers in the forest.  Everyone but the girl was killed.  She didn’t know how to get out of the forest.  While she rested that night a dove came to her and gave her a golden key that would unlock a tree with food inside.  The dove then gave her two more keys.  One key opened a tree with a bed to sleep in and the other opened a tree with clothes inside.  The girl lived in the forest for some time with the dove providing her everything she needed.  One day the dove asked the girl to help him.  He sent her to an old womans house to get a ring.  The dove told her not to talk to the old woman, to pass the old woman on her right side, and to ignore all the fancy rings for the plain ring.  The girl followed all of the dove’s directions but couldn’t find the ring.  Then she saw the old woman sneaking out of the house with a birdcage.  The birdcage had a bird inside who was holding the plain ring she needed.  The girl stopped the old woman and took the ring.  When she got back to the forest she waited for the dove.  As she leaned against a tree it turned into a prince.  The prince explained that the old woman had cursed him to become a tree and he could become a dove for two hours each day.  The prince and the girl went back to his kingdom, got married, and lived happily ever after.

In the story Tanya's Reunion her family had a memory room.  Students brought in memories from their own family to share.
