FAQ Helpful Information

1.  How will I know if school is closing early due to bad weather?

> Mr. Frazier will send out an In-Touch call to all Weakley County Parents as soon as it is determined.

> Mrs. Jackson will send out a call to all MES parents about our time of dismissal (usually ours will be approx. 30 minutes earlier than the rest of the county due to busses having to pick up the high school and middle school students).

> Listen to your radio on the Martin stations and your television stations --Channel 6 WPSD Paducah or WBBJ in Jackson. All of these broadcast stations are notified for your convenience.

2.  What do I need to do to meet with my child's teacher?

> Call the school and make an appointment to meet at a convenient time for both of you.  Parents shouldn't expect to visit during instructional hours as it interrupts the learning process.

> If a problem arises, please call and make an appointment to speak with the teacher before scheduling an appointment with the principal.  The teacher will have the information needed for a solution to hopefully be reached.  If you need to speak with the principal later, please feel free to call and make an appointment for that as well.

3.  What do I do if I need to change the way my child goes home in the afternoon?

> You need to send a note to the teacher with all of the information needed and dates specified.  The note will be copied in the office and put in the proper hands to ensure the safety of your child.  If you should be arranging for him/her to ride a different bus or a bus instead of a car the following information is necessary:  Child's name:  Homeroom Teacher:  Bus #: Address of destination: Applicable dates: and your signature.  The bus driver now has to have an address written as to where the child will be delivered.

> Phone calls will not be accepted to change the way your child goes home.  This is a safety factor for the safe delivery of your child to you. We must have written notices.

4.  Where can I find information to help my child be a better student?

> The Martin Elementary School Website, Weakley County Schools Website as well as the Tennessee State Department of Education all have links that you can access to provide helpful information regarding the content in which your child studies.  The curriculum standards are available for every grade level.  Your child is responsible for mastering these standards before he/she will be considered ready for the next grade.  Skills Tutor is an educational site that is correlated with these standards and is self checking and is very beneficial in reviewing content information. I encourage you to familiarize yourself with the standards that are set forth for Tennessee students.
