NOTE on Personal Plan Portfolio:

Because my teacher webpages were down over the weekend and students could not access directions for the final reflection for the Personal Plan Portfolio, we will put the portfolio together on Thursday rather than Monday. I will be out at the State Poetry Outloud competition in Denver on Tuesday. So, Thursday is now the deadline day for all the pieces of the portfolio. See my assignments calendar for  directions and support materials.

Sophomore Honors English

Remember that you need to bring all the pieces of the personal plan portfolio with you on Monday (March 19). We'll compile all the pieces and staple it all together, and you'll be done with the summative assessment for the Personal Plan Unit. You can find a copy of the personal play checklist in the "Personal Plan Unit" folder.

Welcome to sophomore honors English. You made a smart decision in committing yourself to a class focused so intensely on reading and writing. These literacy skills are critical to learning in all subjects and succeeding in all professions; they help enrich and shape our lives; they give us means to go far beyond ourselves and learn about fascinating worlds around us. A great educator named Nancy Atwell puts it this way: “There is nothing better for you—not broccoli, not an apple a day, not aerobic exercise. In terms of the whole rest of your life, in terms of making you smart in all ways, there’s nothing better. Top ranking scientists and mathematicians are people who read a lot. It’s like money in the bank in terms of the rest of your life, but it also helps you escape from the rest of your life and live experiences you can only dream of. Most importantly, along with writing, it’s the best way I know to find out who you are, what you care about, and what kind of person you want to become.”
