Board of Christian Education

The purpose of St. John’s Board of Christian Education is to nurture and to share the faith of God’s people by teaching, learning, and living the Good News of God’s love.

Sunday School (Nursery-6th grade)

Sunday School is an exciting place where our children come to know Jesus as their very best Friend.  Each week they sing, pray, hear Bible stories, discover Christian truths, and grow in their faith.  It’s an enjoyable time in which they develop their gifts, form helpful friendships, and become better able to handle life’s many challenges and possibilities.  We use Gospel Light’s Sunday School Curriculum, which is designed to introduce and teach God’s message at developmentally appropriate levels.  Lessons from the Old and New Testaments help us to understand and follow God’s plan for our lives.

Youth Confirmation (7th & 8th grade)

Our Youth Confirmation Program consists of 2 years of carefully planned learning experiences, focusing on the Bible and on Martin Luther’s Small Catechism.  Parents/sponsors, teachers, and Committee work together, with God’s guidance and help, to provide the best possible ways for our young people to build a solid foundation for their life and grow in their faith.

Confirmation is:

Þ     building a strong foundation for life.

Þ     a ministry we do together as the Church.

Þ     a meaningful ceremony on a special day.

Þ     An investment in preparing for life

Þ     affirming your Baptism and choosing to continue.

Þ     a big step in a life-long process.

Adult Membership Class

This refreshing review of the foundations of our faith, is presented each year in 11 sessions, mostly Wednesday evenings, from late September to early December.  “Newcomers” as well as “seasoned veterans” find it very valuable for strengthening faith, serving God more effectively, and sharing God’s love more confidently.  Please contact Pastor Carl at 315-986-3045 or stjohns@pumpkinhook.org for more information.

A variety of other Adult Bible Studies are also offered throughout the year.
