Oak Street Music Oak Street Music

Classroom Music Oak Street Elementary School

It is the goal of our elementary music program to contribute to the musical growth of children by providing a variety of musical experiences, nurturing musical interests and abilities, and enriching their knowledge of music. There is much to be accomplished and I truly appreciated any support or reinforcement that you give to your child concerning his or her music instruction.

Goals for the Music Curriculum for grades 3-5 will include the following:

-Students will develop an independent singing voice using rounds, partner songs and simple harmonies.

-Students will work to keep a steady beat and rhythm during instrumental accompaniments.

-Students will develop grade appropriate rhythmic reading skills and use these within age appropriate

compositions.

-Students will learn names, sounds and the correct playing techniques for the classroom instruments.

-Students will learn orchestral instruments, their sounds and ensemble combinations.

-Students will learn music terminology such as ostinato, harmony, unison, form, etc.

-Students will learn and identify various styles of music.

Chorus:

Your child will have the opportunity to participate in chorus.  Third grade chorus members meet on Tuesdays from 2:15-3:05 and Fourth and Fifth grade chorus members meet on Mondays from 2:15-3:05.  The Winter Concert will be December 15 at 7:00 at the Oak Street gymnasium and the Spring Concert will be March 30 at 7:00 at the PHS gymnasium.  Students who join chorus are expected to participate for the entire year and attend both concerts.

Recorders:

Third grade students are each provided with a recorder to use throughout third, fourth and fifth grade.  Students will learn simple songs and melodies throughout their music education at Oak Street and will take the recorders home with them at the end of their fifth grade year.

I truly appreciate the interest you show concerning your child’s music instruction.  If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to contact me or leave a message at school and I will return your call.  Thank you very much for your support.
