Welcome to our classroom website!

 May 31st

Our last week in first grade! What a terrific year. We would like to start our final newsletter by saying a big “Thank You” to parents who have supported our classes throughout the year. Your encouragement and love of learning has rubbed off on your children!

This Friday, June 4th, school will end at 11:30. Please plan your afternoons accordingly. We begin this final day with an Elementary Assembly where Grade 1 will be performing their Indian Dance, as well as sharing their final Unit of Inquiry on air.

We had a request for some Math Links that students could access over the summer.

www.ixl.com is THE place to go for practicing specific skills. Your child can continue to firm up the first grade skills over the summer…or move on to Grade 2!

http://www.teachingtime.co.uk/draggames/sthec2.html is the link for Stop The Clock. This is a fun activity where students drag the digital time to the correct analog clock face and make matches.

http://www.apples4theteacher.com/math.html has a variety of activities including:

?  Geometry and Geometric Shapes Games

?  Interactive 100 Number Charts

?  Measurement Games

?  Money Games

?  Number Sense Games

?  Operations (+ - * ) Games - Addition, Subtraction, Multiplication, Division

?  Telling Time Games

Our class web pages also have links that will remain available to you during the summer. Don’t forget that playing card games at home – like Go Fish and Crazy Eights – are great opportunities to reinforce math skills, AND the important social skills like taking turns and being a “good winner”.

Have a wonderful summer holiday!

  • Here is a link to a Photostory we made for our epals in Helena, MT, USA.  We sent them a hard copy of the book and then made it into a digital story, too.

I have placed word searches and puzzles on the puzzles link to your left.  The kids have had an opportunity to explore this in school and are encouraged to at home, as well.  Have fun!
