For Parents Parents

Thank you for taking time to visit my website. Myteacherpages is not affiliated with Mepham High School in any way. It is a website that I subscribe to and use because I feel it gives my students an additional avenue with which to succeed.

Website: Every handout, homework assignment and vocabulary word assigned can be found on this site for you and your children's benefit. Amongst other things you will find summaries of each days lesson along with handouts and links to external websites for enrichment on that days topic on the calendar page. This site contains a page with additional information on the use of group projects in this course for your benefit.  Homework can be found on both the calendar page and a separate homework listing.

Grades: You can check your child's grades along with links to any missed assignments by going to the grades page under my resources and using the code # your child selected at the beginning of the school year.  I am using a new system this year called engrade which will allow for greater functionality that I have had in the past.  Please be patient at the start of the year as there may be some "growing pains" as I integrate this new element to the website.

Practice Quizzes  Students are encouraged to take weekly review quizzes.  The quizzes are made up 10 multiple choice questions that have been taken from old regents exams. By giving the students the opportunity to continually practice using the types of questions they will see on their weekly quizzes, unit tests and on the Regents exam at the end of the year I have found that students experience a much greater degree of success and improved confidence in their test taking ability.  Students should access and take the quizzes as often as possible.  I also give students who score a 100% on the weekly practice quizzes a 10% bonus on the actual in class quiz.

Review Books:  For those interested in purchasing a review book to prepare for the Global History Regents exam, the district recommends The Brief Review for Global History & Geography The book is available for $10.97 from Prentice-Hall (1 800-848-9500 between 8AM and 6PM).  The company will ship the book directly to you.

Binders: Students are HIGHLY ENCOURAGED to purchase and use a three ring binder.

Blogs and Wikis:  Part of my goal as an educator is to encourage students to take their learning outside of the traditional classroom.  For this purpose the class uses a number of online learning communities that I have created for their use.  The sites are password protected and maintained by me.  Students are never assigned to post any personal information on the sites.  Membership on the sites is restricted to class members, myself and a handful of Bellmore-Merrick administrators.  If at any point you have concerns or would like to view the sites please contact me and I will arrange for you to have temporary access to the site.  Unfortunately I am limited to 100 members for each of the sites, otherwise I would welcome unlimited parental involvement.

Newsletters: Once a month I send out a class newsletter via email to keep you updated on what is going on in class.  You can sign up for the newsletter by registering here or you read archived copies once they've been published by clicking here.
