Hi families,
Hopefully your student gave you a bright colored flyer when they got home today--its the update on our new plan for the overnight camp now scheduled for June 11-12. I've also attached a copy. Please let me know as soon as possible if you aren't not planning on having your child participate. Our reservation is contingent upon 48 committed students with paid deposits ($25 due next Thursday). Please let me know if you have any questions.

This has been a great week back in school. The kids took off with their cross stitch projects and have doing great! We've also almost completed the states puzzle. It will come home next week and can serve as a great visual as we prepare for the weekly regional quizzes starting next Friday. Students will need to identify the state on a blank map, and write the 2 letter abbreviation and capitol city. We did lots of songs and games this week and they are well on their way to mastering the western states. We are scanning in the blank regional templates and uploading them this weekend on our website.

Please check student's calendars as the dates for math and state quizzes are on there. Our January reading logs have not come back from the copier yet, so students are logging their nightly reading minutes/pages in their calenders. (at least 20 min. Mon-Thur).

Have a great weekend,

Updated 11/29/11

Hi Families,

We hope everyone had a wonderful Thanksgiving break, I know we sure did!!  It is great to be back but with only three weeks until our next break, we have a lot going on.  To begin, we are in the middle of researching for our explorer speech that is going to be given the week of Dec. 12th.  Tonight’s homework is to spend 30 minutes working on the speech.  This will look different for each of the students but they should be reading their print outs, taking notes or writing their speech.  We spent over an hour today working on our explorer research and notes.  We will also spend more time on it the rest of this week but we need your help listening to your child’s speech and giving advice.  Let us know if you have any questions.  The assignment sheet is on our website.

Here are a few more things to look out for:

¨ Permission slip for our field trip to the retirement home will be sent home tomorrow and needs to come back by Monday, December 5.

¨ Field trip to retirement home for caroling – December 14.

¨ Holiday Performance at Franklin gym Thursday, December 15 at 6 pm.

¨ Math Test 10 next Friday, December 9.

That should be all for now, let us know if you have any questions!!

Hi Families,

As you might have heard we are knee deep in our persuasion planner.  There are a lot of things happening this week so I want to make sure you are informed.

  •  Math Test – Friday, Oct. 28, 2011

  • Math Club – Thursday, Oct. 27 at 7:20 am.  Door locked at 7:30 am.

  • Roots Review Quiz – Friday, Oct. 28. (Website has study guide)

  • Lit Circle, spelling and roots came home today for a signature.  Needs to be returned tomorrow.

  • Persuasive Letter that is done in class, is due Friday, Oct. 28.  If your child needs additional time, it is coming home this week.  If it is not turned in on Friday they will not participate in the class party until it is turned in.

  • Persuasion Groups were assigned today.  The students established their company name and this week they will create a product, logo and marketing plan for their product.  The groups will be marketing their product at the Halloween Parade.  This should be done at school, unless they have decided to dress alike.  For example, the group might all decide to wear blue pants and shirt with a logo taped on to their shirt.  This is not a costume that is being bought!

  • Art Docent this Friday, Oct. 28 – POP Art.  Pop Art favored figural imagery and the reproduction of everyday objects, such as Campbell Soup cans, comic strips and advertisements.  Please send in a package/label from home by this Thursday.  Examples are a soda can, candy package, canned good, and toothpaste package.

  •  Halloween parade – Monday, Oct. 31 at 2 pm.

Please let me know if you have any questions.  Have a great week!

Updated 10/4/11
Hi families,

This is a very busy week, two field trips in one week, WOW!  Yesterday, we went to the National Weather Service and it was very informative.  Make sure to ask you child all about it.  As well as, Friday is our field trip to the Mondovi Center. Students should be dressed up for the theater (dress/skirt or /slacks & button shirts). If no dress up clothes are available or desired, students should dress in their school uniform. We will have lunch at Mondavi, so please send a sack lunch and drink.

The following people have a spot reserved to chaperone. Please confirm if you are still able to come. Cost is $12 (cash or check payable to LBCS). We leave at 9:30 and return at approximately 1:30 or 2:00.  Due to lack of room on the bus we are asking parents to drive on their own and meet us in the front of Mondavi at 10:30.  Please email me your cell phone number before Friday so that I can communicate with you, if needed.

- Mrs. Robinson
- Mrs. Mathews
- Mrs. Chakarbarti
- Mrs. Rudman
- Mr. Gonzalez

Also, if you didn't check out the Weather School yesterday, you can still see our class online at http://sacramento.cbslocal.com/show/weather-school/.

This week we have weather forecast speeches. No spelling/vocab. test on Friday, just the Vocab. poster (see assignment in homework folders). Also, we will still have Lit Circle on Friday.  It will probably start closer to 2:20 and then end the day with Lit Circles.

Please check the file below for a list of volunteers.

Hi families,
A couple clarifications/updates on weekly news....

  • We will  have a Weather and Math Vocabulary Quiz this Friday.  I will be giving the students the words in class and we will practice what each of them mean.  However, all of the vocabulary has already been taught so this isn't anything new.  We will post a review sheet on the website, so I would strongly suggest you work with your child.  It will be under Homework and Projects.
  • Math club (Sept. 22) is an opportunity for students to practice problems they need help with from the math practice test that I'll give out the Monday of that week. It's completely optional, but is really helpful for the test the following day. Starts at 7:20. Door shuts at 7:30 (so we aren't distracted with lots of late comers). They must complete the practice test beforehand and bring it with them.
  • To place your Scholastic book order online, you'll need to set up an account first (if you haven't done so already). Then it will prompt you for the activation code (GWZQY). Order at:  www.scholastic.com/bookclubs or send it a check payable to Scholastic and order form.
  • Spelling/vocab homework will look different this week--its a review activity of the two prefixes.
  • I will be having a brief discussion about 9-11 on Monday but because of the sensitivity of the tramatic event and not knowing how some are dealing with it now or in the past,, it will be very brief and focusing on the heroes and freedoms we have here. If you have any concerns, I can always send your child to another class to help during that time, just let me know.
Have a great Sunday!!  We are off to the Gold Country Fair!

Liz
