WHEN SHOULD YOUR CHILD STAY HOME FROM SCHOOL?
- Seems ill
- Looks pale
- Is not able to participate in school activities
- Is sweaty (when the weather is not hot)
- Has a fever (temperature >100)
- Coughs or sneezes more then usual
- Has pain in ears, throat or chest
- Has vomitted in the past 12 hours
- Has had diarrhea two or more times in the past 24 hours
Your child will need to be sent home if any of the above symptoms occur during the school day. Therefore, it is very important that the school have up to date phone numbers including home, cell, and business phones of parents and emergency contacts.
HOW DO YOU PREVENT THE SPREAD OF COLDS AND FLU?
Cover Coughs and Sneezes
- Use tissues (not your hands) to cover coughs and sneezes
- Throw tissues away and wash your hands immediately
- If you don't have a tissue, cough or sneeze into your sleeve
Keep Sick People Away From Healthy People
- Stay home if you are sick
- Stay away from sick people
- Avoid crowds during flu season
Was Hands Frequently
- Wet with warm water and add soap
- Scrub for 20 seconds (state ABC's or sing Happy Birthday)
- Rinse well
- Dry with a paper towel
- Use paper towel to turn off faucet
- Use paper towel to open bathroom door
- Use alcohol-based hand sanitizer if soap and water is not available
Clean commonly shared items
- Phones, toys, light switches, remotes controls, toilet handles, doorknobs, faucets, handles
