Welcome to 5th Grade!! We are looking forward to a year of learning, fun and new beginnings. This year we welcome two new students into our class: Inbal from Providence, and Bradley from Needham. Welcome to our class, and to everyone: Welcome to a new year!!
This year’s 5th grade is divided into 2 sections which we call havurot. This year, the two havurot are named KESEF, which means silver, and ZAHAV, which means gold. Most of the time we meet in havurot, but sometimes we meet as a whole 5th grade for "Community Time." Both Hana and Renee teach both havurot, so you will all have both of us as your teachers. Hana teaches Science and Judaics to all of the 5th graders. Renee teaches Language Arts and Social Studies to all of the students. Mrs.Jackman, Hana and Mrs. Bell teach the math groups. This year our Hebrew teachers are Ghilly, and Hana. There will be 2 Humash sections, taught by Hana and Morah Miriam. In addition, you will have computers, library, Torah cantillation, gym, art, and music. Gym is on Tuesdays so please wear sneakers then.
You will receive approximately 1 hour of homework each weeknight. Every night, there will be independent reading. Our independent reading program is called SQUIRT. There is a link on the website with a list of recommendations for independent reading books. Please make sure you always have a book at home to read. Books are available on loan from our class library. Throughout the year we will send home Scholastic book order forms so you can purchase books at reasonable rates.
You and your parents can always email us with any questions that you may have. Our e-mails are: rwerber@ksa-ne.org and hberman@ksa-ne.org .
We are looking forward to an exciting and enriching year of learning!
Shanah Tovah,
Renée and Hana
