Welcome to second grade! We are off to a great start learning many new things. Our worm science unit began the first week of school observing worms and writing about what we saw. The worm lady visited us and showed us how to maintain a worm box in our classroom. We learned a lot of facts about worms. Did you know... 1. that worms are blind ? 2. that they have no ears, nose, teeth, legs, or backbones? 3. that worms eat dirt, paper, and plants? 4. that worms feel vibrations in the ground? Just ask your child to tell you more amazing worm facts! Each day we have a morning meeting. This teaches us how to cooperate and helps us develop good communication skills. We learn how to greet, share and do activities as a class. We also work on calendar skills and read a morning message. This is a great way to start our day! Share time should be educational. Try to have your child bring in something that they can teach/share with their classmates. This builds confidence and makes sharing time a more enriched activity. A few examples of an educational share may be: sports equipment (or pictures) of a sport they play and to teach the other students about the game or a hobby collection that they can inform us about or a story or poem they have written and can read to the class or a postcard that they received and show us where it was sent from on the globe/map and a little information about that area. The children love to share!! We have started the Pebbles, Sand and Silt science unit with Applied Art. Mrs. Berkstrom will be working along with us intergrating art and activities. It's always a lot of fun!
