This course speeds through the history of the United States from the Civil War to the end of the twentieth century. This course demands much of a student’s reading, writing, and thinking skills. There will be close examination of primary sources (written by people of the time) and secondary literature (written by historians) to prepare you for diploma level historical interpretation. Because the study of history is demanding and mentally rigorous, paying attention in class, completing homework, and thinking-really thinking seriously about history-are necessary to succeed at this level. You will receive the Colorado State History Standards and MYP Areas of Interaction and Aims and Objectives to better understand the goals and purposes of the course. We will discuss these and translate them into more student-friendly forms over the first few days of the school year.
