Save the Tigers

People use their talents and beliefs to change and influence the world was the Central Idea of our VIP Unit. It was in this spirit that Anant Mohan decided he wanted to do something to save the tigers in India. He formed a small committee within 2B and together with the rest of the class they are launching a fund raising drive to save the tigers in India. The class made posters and we have put them out around the school. The committee will make an announcement at the Assembly on Tuesday to raise awareness and let the community know that donations can be made in the ES Office.

Math

This week we will wrap up our Geometry Unit.  We have learned a lot about the attributes of polygons and 3-D shapes.  We have explored parallelograms, the different kinds of quadrilaterals and the concept of symmetry. We will be sending home the Unit Assessment with the reflection later this week. Please have a look at them with your child, sign the form and return it with the assessment.

Literacy & Inquiry

Our Folktale Unit is in full swing. In this unit we are exploring some of the different kinds of folktales: fables, legends, trickster tales and pourquoi tales that explain how or why things are the way they are. We are studying the elements of folktales and making connections to fiction writing and story elements For instance all stories have a beginning, middle and end. Every story has a problem for the main character or characters to solve. Good stories hook the reader with an interesting beginning, keep the reader’s interest with interesting details and action, and then resolve the problem in the end. Next week the students will practice making their own folktales using Max Show.
