IB Assessment - IB Math SL 7,8
All IB Diploma courses include summative assessments that measure what students know and can do. One of these is internal, meaning that it is set, delivered, and marked by the instructor. The other is external, meaning that the student's work is forwarded to an IB examiner for marking. Students enrolled in IB Math SL must complete two such assessments for the IB: - The Portfolio (internal). Worth 20% of the overall Math SL grade.
- Paper 1 (external) worth 40% of the overall Math SL grade, and Paper 2 (external) worth 40% of the overall Math SL grade.
IB Math SL Portfolio-Internal Assessment (20%) The Math SL portfolios are the required internal assessments for the course. Of the total marks for the course score, 20% is allocated for this component. Each project will be assessed against each of the following seven criteria: * Criterion A: Use of notation and terminology * Criterion B: Communication * Criterion C: Mathematical Processes (Either searching for patterns or developing a model) * Criterion D: Results (Either Interpretation or Generalization) * Criterion E: Use of technology * Criterion F: Quality of Work The students have completed one of the portfolio activities last year. This year they will complete one more activity. The two activities will add up to a score out of 40 points and will represent 20% of their 1-7 IB grade in July. External Assessment (3 hours) – 80% * Paper 1 (1hour, 30 minutes) – 40% · Section A: 6-7 Compulsory short-response based on the whole syllabus (NO Calculator) · Section B: 3-4 Compulsory short-response based on the whole syllabus (NO Calculator) * Paper 2 (1 hour, 30 minutes) – 40% · Section A: 6-7 Compulsory short-response based on the whole syllabus (Calculator) · Section B: 3-4 Compulsory short-response based on the whole syllabus (Calculator) Once the three components have been assessed the student is assigned a score level for the course from 1(very poorly qualified) to 7(very highly qualified).
