Books to the ceiling, Books to the sky. My pile of books Are a mile high. How I love them! How I need them! I'll have a long beard By the time I read them. ~ Arnold Lobel ~ Checking Books Out Fourth graders may check one book per week and are encouraged to read the book at home, and then take an AR quiz at school. Students who don't return their book on the day it is due will receive a computer generated notice to remind them the book needs to be returned. I use the notice as a way to communicate with the parent that the book wasn't returned on the day it was due. No fines are charged at school, but all lost or damaged books must be paid for. Students will be checking books out on the following days*: Monday - 4B, 4C & 4H *If school was not in session on their regularly scheduled check out students will check out books as follows: Wednesday - 4H; Friday - 4B & 4C What Do We Do in Fourth Grade? Fourth graders begin working with the Dewey Decimal System and will continue working with citing sources. They will also work on developing reading skills in the comprehension of nonfiction material. Students will work with encyclopedias to collect and record information. Students will begin sharing books with one another through one minute book talks. We also continue to work with Reader's Theatre.
