SPS Alumni Spotlight Biography
Meet Bert Powell - 1985 Graduate |
|
Bert Powell left St. Peter's School in 1985 and went to J.H.Rose High School. He attended The University of North Carolina and obtained a bachelor's degree in Political Science. He then earned his MBA from Wake Forest University. Mr. Powell enjoys spending time with his wife and three boys. He hunts during deer and turkey seasons and likes to play soccer. He is currently a financial advisor in Greenville, North Carolina. What is your most vivid memory from SPS? When I was twelve, our dog was hit by a car and died. I was very fond of the dog and the entire incident was upsetting. My parents informed my teachers and when I got to the school the next day, during prayer my class prayed for me because I was hurting. Not all schools are built to provide that kind of support. I will never forget it. What is your fondest memory from SPS? Like many children some of my fondest memories were on the playground or P.E. At that time, lunches were only served once a week: hot dogs! That was always a big day. As a Protestant, I was originally intimidated by Mass, but ultimately came to enjoy it as an important part of our routine. Who would you like to see and talk to again from your days at SPS? I would like to see some of my old classmates and teachers and just catch up. My third grade teacher - Sister Joan - was fantastic. I would like to learn about what has happened to them since we parted ways. I would also want to make sure they knew about opportunities to give back to St. Peter's so that others would have the same or improved benefits we were afforded. Looking back, what is the most valuable tool SPS gave you as you live your life today? I was fortunate to grow up with supportive parents that raised us with Christian values. However, as a parent today, I appreciate how difficult that job is. Saint Peter's helped reinforce the importance of those values today. What would you like to tell the current students regarding their time at SPS? Have fun! Study hard. Be nice to your classmates. Once you leave St. Peter's they may be some of the people you depend on the most.
