This class applies and expands developed skills in house and stage management.Students will be assigned complete management duties on school productions throughout the entire year. The job assignments will exist in the following arenas: stage manager, assistant stage manager, floor manager, house manager, assistant house manager. The third year management students will update their prompt scripts and management cases for Senior Showcase, participate in weekly production update meetings, and assist second year students in creating their initial prompt scripts. The second year students will begin the “on the job” training as house managers and assistants, and stage managers and assistants. The work assignments will pair them with third year students on all theatre productions and selected performances from additional clusters. Attendance and participation in weekly production update meetings creates the foundation for “team” work and observation. In addition they will create a 501-C3 non profit organization and plan a special fund raising event for this organization. Students showing exceptional interest, skills, and dedication to theatre management will participate in internship programs in local professional theatres upon recommendation.
Beginning Theatre Management
Students in the class will be introduced to the process of house and stage management. They will develop the technical skills of creating a prompt script, participating on a house management crew, developing a theoretical theatre to work with scheduling and staff. A minimal amount of one-time supplies are needed for this class and can be re-used if the student decides to advance in management studies.
Musical Theatre
The multi-level students participate in developing the “triplethreat” skills of singing, dancing and acting. Students will study vocal/ dance pedagogy, character study, stage presence, music analysis and techniques for pairing with an accompanist. The technology of Broadway classroom will assist in transporting them to the Great White Way, allowing backstage passes, interviews with artists/designersand most importantly, performance viewing.
