Welcome! 2009-2010 Lights...Camera...Action...LEARN

FCAT is here!

We can all breathe a sigh of relief that our students are not testing, however we are sending good thoughts and encouragement in the direction of our 3rd-5th graders. We are asking that all students do their best to arrive on time this week as to not disturb our testers. Thank you!

Daylight Savings Time begins this weekend. Don't forget to set your clocks FORWARD on Sunday.

YEARBOOKS are on Sale!!! :) We have preordered a limited number of books. Take advantage of this presale opportunity for 2 reasons: 1 the books may be gone if you wait until May to buy your book & 2, you save $5 by purchasing a book before April 1st. The cost of the book is $20 now ($25 after April 1st). You can order online and pay with a credit card, however the processing company tacks on an additional $3.50 service fee making the book $23.50 now and $28.50 after April 1st.

Once again, 2nd Grade has begun the process of cutting back on paper and toner use. You will notice changes in the homework and weekly tests such as Basic Fact quizzes, Skills quizzes, and Spelling Tests. Each test/quiz will still be counted the same and students should continue preparing for these assessments the same, they will just look differently. :)

Our instructional focuses for the week:

Reading: Dr. Seuss & retelling

Math: Story Problems (knowing when to add and when to subract & multi step problems)

Writing: ANIMAL REPORTS :) (our favorite)

Science: Charting the Weather

Skills: multi-syllable words

The second grade reading book goal is 90 books per quarter. The books students read at school AND at home will count toward this goal.

Please remember that homework has been uploaded onto our site, however students should not work ahead. All homework is due the day after it is assigned with the exception of the weekly skills practice sheets. This work can be completed at any time during the week, but should be turned in on Friday.

Each week students will take a Spelling Test and a Basic Fact Math Drill. Students are responsible for practicing spelling and their Math Facts at home. If you notice a word is spelled incorrectly in your student’s agenda PLEASE do not let them study the incorrect spelling. We do check the agendas, but sometime an error will pass us by. Thanks for your help. J

This website is designed to keep you informed and "in the loop" of our classroom happenings, upcoming events, homework expectations, and contact information. If you have any questions or concerns please do not hesitate to contact your student's classroom teacher.
