Be a member of the 100% Club. Turn in all of your homework each week!!

Homework

Homework is critically important to succeed in mathematics. I expect you to complete each assignment to the best of your ability. Homework is graded on a "best effort" basis. This means you get credit for the assignment even if you got stuck and could not finish. But remember, you are expected to know the material before any quiz or test, so make sure you get help to work through any problems that were difficult or that you could not finish. Homework is due on the day listed in your weekly assignment sheet, but the entire weekly assignment packet will be turned in on Fridays so I can record your scores in the grade book. If all of your homework has been turned in, then you are eligible for the 100% Club. Club members have earned the right to skip one question on a test or quiz (if they need to) by being responsible and showing their commitment to math by turning in all of their homework.

Homework Policy

To receive full credit for an assignment, it must be on time and must...
  • Be neat, show all work, done in pencil.
  • Have a proper Hoover Heading, with assignment title.
  • Be properly corrected. We spend class time on the day the assignment is due to correct and review assignments.(Another reason to not fall behind.)
  • Have your assignment sheet completely filled out.
  • Have the assignments stapled behind the assignment sheet in date order (oldest assignment on top, newest assignment on bottom).
Here's a good list of guidelines for math homework.

Homework, classwork, and projects are listed in the calendar on the date they are due. Quizzes and tests are listed in the calendar on the date they are given.

100% Homework Club

Each 6-week grading period, students have the opportunity to join the 100% Homework Club. All homework must be turned in on time. Exceptions will be made if a student is absent from school, however, he/she must turn in make up work on time. At the end of each 6-week grading period, students receive a certificate for their accomplishment. Special recognition will be made for those students who turn in all homework on time for the entire school year.

Each (6-week) grading period we start with a clean slate. Students who turn in 100% of their homework for the first week will earn their name on the 100% Club wall. If they miss a week or have incomplete homework turned in for a week, their name comes down off the wall.

Benefits of 100% Club Membership

Members of the "100% Club" at the time of a test/quiz may choose to skip one problem (not on benchmarks) without losing points. Since we have frequent quizzes the benefit can be used each time. Tests are usually scheduled every 4-6 weeks. Students who remain in the 100% Club for the entire grading period will receive 20 points of extra credit (roughly the equivalent to one quiz).

Textbook Help

Click on the textbook above and type in the keyword from the textbook to view online resources (you will need to scroll down on the page to find the "Go resources" search box). For example, to obtain on-line help for section 1-5 simply type in "MA8CA 1-5" as the keyword to access videos, instructions, and extra examples. The keywords all start with MA8CA, the "1-5" refers to section 1-5 in the textbook. To obtain online help for section 5-6, enter "MA8CA 5-6" as the keyword. The keyword "MA8CA Parent" will show written resources for all chapters, simply select the desired chapter (the "parent" resources do not include videos, just quick overviews of the topic with a few examples).
