Clip chart Clip chart

As all of you know we have had our share of discipline problems. I am always on the look out to find ways to help the children manage their own behavior. In order to learn there must be self control. Many of my students have learned this and are doing a wonderful job. Unfortunately the behavior system that  I was using did not reward these children. I feel as if I am only giving attention to the ones who are disrupting our class. This clip chart will give the  attention and the rewards to the children who cooperate.

How does it work?

In the morning everyone will be on green, ready to learn. During the course of the day, children who are working with me and cooperating will move their clothespin up, one level at a time. If the student reaches the top, I will glue a "jewel" onto their clothespin. Once 5 jewels are glued on, that clothespin will be retired and the student will receive a new colored clothespin. The color will signify that this  student is really cooperating with the class and doing their part to make us successful.

For those students who have discipline issues the clothespin can move down 1 level. When it reaches the bottom I will contact the parent either through a note, email or telephone call. If the child is at the bottom continually then a conference will be held. I am truly hoping and praying that this will be the answer for everyone to be successful but if not I will at least have some satisfaction that the cooperating children will be rewarded.

When will it start?

It will be ready to start on November 30th?

What will happen if a child is below the ready to learn at lunch?

They will mark their calendar with the appropriate number. The numbers will run from 0 (lowest) to 6 (highest). Then the students who are below the green which will be number 3 will change their clothespin back to green. If the students are above green they will keep their clothespin where they are.

How will the parents know of their behavior?

A behavior calendar will still go home. The difference will be that there will be numbers instead of colors. You want to see at least a 3. If it's higher you know your child cooperated, lower they had problems. I will have a copy of the clip chart on the calendar for easy reference. I am still asking parents to sign the calendar each night. This will insure that you are in the know regarding their behavior.
