Classroom Policies and Procedures

Being on Time

It is very important that students arrive to school by 7:40.  This will allow your child plenty of time to unpack their belongings and prepare for their day.

Note: Your child will be counted tardy if they enter the building after 7:50am

If your child is absent, please notify the office.  Also, send a note with your child or send an e-mail upon their return stating the reason for his/her absence.

Mooneyham Expectations

1. Be on time and prepared

2. Be courteous

3. Be respectful to others and their property

4. Be safe

Classroom Rewards

In fifth grade, we use a ticket based reward system in which students receive tickets for following expectations. Once a student accumulates 25 tickets they are given the opportunity to trade them in for a reward of their choice.  This opportunity will be given every Friday.  The following are some examples of their choices:

  • Take off shoes in class
  • Sit in Teacher's chair
  • Wear a hat in class
  • Bring a stuffed animal to class
  • Bring your favorite snack/drink

Classroom Consequences

1. Warning

2. Loss of value time/10 minutes

3. Silent lunch

4. Parent contact

5. Office referral

Severe infractions such as fighting, stealing, threats, or hurting another student will result in an automatic office referral.

Classroom Snack

Student are allowed to bring a healthy snack to school to eat during our morning break.  In addition, they may drink clear water throughout the school day.

Planners

Planners are very important in fifth grade!  They are utilized to help students begin the process of learning how to be organized and responsible for their own assignments.  Students are required to write down assignments and important information in their planners daily. Planners are also used as a tool of communication between parents and teachers. Students will be required to take planners home and have them signed by a parent daily.

Here are some helpful tips for planners:
• Please do not sign ahead.
• Please do not sign if the planner is not filled in for the day.
On days that students do not have homework, "no homework" is written for that day.
