Class Participation Rubric

Classroom Participation Rubric—2012-2013

 

Classroom participation is important for the welfare and constructiveness of each and every class.  You, as the student, will be evaluated on your overall constructiveness/effort, class contributions*, promptness, and conduct each quarter.  The class participation score counts for 5 percent of your quarterly grade.

Constructiveness/

Effort

You are consistently on-task and/or always follow directions.

 

The product of your work is exemplary.  It is equal or greater than that of a teacher.  Product of work shows consistent effort; is complete, neat, legible, and organized to the best of your ability.

 

You are normally on-task and/or satisfactorily follow directions.

 

Classwork shows evidence of effort and is complete to the best of your ability.

You are somewhat on task and/or sometimes follow directions.  You sometimes need small reminders or cues to get back on task.

 

Classwork is incomplete and/or shows evidence of fluctuating or inconsistent effort. 

You are seldom on task and need frequent reminders or cues.

 

You seldom follow directions.

 

Classwork is severely incomplete or missing and/or shows evidence of little to no effort.

Class Contributions

You actively and consistently participate in class through evidence of verbal responses/questions, body language, and/or showing attentiveness.

 

You satisfactorily participate in class through evidence of verbal responses/questions, body language, and/or showing attentiveness.

You somewhat participate in class through some evidence of verbal responses/questions, body language, and/or showing attentiveness.

You seldom participate in class by lack of one or more of the following: verbal responses/questions, body language, and/or showing attentiveness.

Promptness (excused tardiness is exempted)

You, without fail, are always on time for class and are promptly ready to begin work.

You are consistently on time for class and are ready to begin work.

You are usually on time for class, but you may need prompting to begin work and/or have 3 or more tardies.

You are consistently late for class and/or you frequently need to be reminded to be ready for class to begin.

Conduct

 

Your conduct is exemplary.  It consistently parallels with proper adult behavior.

Your conduct parallels with proper adult behavior.

Your conduct sometimes parallels with adult behavior.

Your conduct seldom parallels with adult behavior.

 

* Contributions include one or more of the following: showing attention, asking questions, offering comments, or body language (sitting upright, appearing focused, etc)
