Our current math unit is called Stretching & Shrinking. Currently we are working in Investigation 3. Below are the student learning targets for Investigations 3, 4, & 5.
- I know how to find & write a ratio using similar figures.
- I know how to find a scale factor by using ratios of similar figures.
- I understand how scale factor is related to the areas between figures.
- I can explain how scale factors that are less than 1 and scale factors that are greater than
1 effect the area.
- I can use scale factor to draw similar shapes.
- I can calculate the missing side length measurements using scale factor.
Investigation 4:
- I can identify and use ratios within a figure to determine if two figures are similar.
- I can use ratios within figures or scale factor to find missing lengths in similar figures.
- I can divide large figures into smaller identifiable figures for the purpose of finding missing
measurements.
Investigation 5:
- I can use my understanding of similar triangles and similar quadrilaterals and apply this
understanding in new situations.
- I can find a missing measurement by using indirect measurement (scale factor - SF)
- I can measure any length to the nearest mm or 8th of an inch.
