Welcome to the school year 2011 - 2012.1-5-12 Happy New Year! I hope every family has a healthful & hopeful 2012. We have 4 weeks left in the quarter. This is the time for students and parents to be looking closely at student progress. Retesting is available next week in both math and science. in class I talk about retesting times nearly every day now. Before the holidays it was crazy to find the time but over the next two weeks is prime time to improve academic grades.
Meanwhile we are doing first tests for "energy transfer" in science and "ratios, fractions, and percents" in math in the next couple of days. Progress reports will come home shortly after I have evaluated these tests.
10-24-11 Thank you to parents and students who made time in their schedules to conference with Mrs. Miller and myself. I regret we were not able to set conferences with every family. If you would like a conference I would be happy to find a time we can meet.
I'm trying a couple of things out. One is posting a document of the learning targets for the math and science investigations we are currently working on. This could help parents understand better what we are working on in class. It also could be helpful to anyone that is tutoring my students.
The other thing I'm playing with is a brief weekly schedule that also will provide a snapshot of where we are going for the week. There are two problems with this. One is that it is a work in process and it will develop and shift as the week goes on. I'm not sure how this will work but I definitely see the need for it. I tried to do this in a more complex form earlier in the year but I couldn't keep it up when I get busy. Let's see how this works.
9-30-11 Things are finally beginning to settle in for the new school year. This coming Tuesday, Oct. 4 is the parent night here at Marshall. I hope many parents and students are able to attend. Also, conferences are coming up the week of Oct. 10 - 14. You can sign up for a time slot at the parent night and reserve your spot. I look forward to meeting all of you.
9-7-11 At the end of this first day of school, I can honestly say I have had a great day with students. We have large classes but students rose to the occasion. They were enthusiastic, attentive, & cooperative. It's going to be a wonderful year. Thank you to students & parents for your engagement in the learning process.
Parents / guardians, there is a safety science contract (sent home today, Wednesday) to read & go over with your student. It is due Friday. Please navigate to subject pages on this teacher page to see the assignment screens from class.
8-3-11 Soon, class descriptions and news will start appearing on this page. The most recent news is at the top of the page. As you scroll down you can view previous entries.
Have a lovely summer wind-up and I'll see you in September.
