Have a wonderful, fun-filled, safe summer!  See you in the fall!!!

Awesome Fieldtrip on May 9th!

On May 9th, the third grade classes traveled to Dubuque to visit the Heitkamp Planetarium at Loras College.  All of the students thought the planetarium was very interesting.  We were able to view two programs, one covering primarily the solar system.  The second showed all of the major constellations.  It was very cool to see above us all of the planets and stars we've been learning about in class!

After the planetarium, we headed over to the Dubuque Aboretum and Botanical Gardens and enjoyed a picnic lunch on their beautiful screened-in porch, overlooking the gardens.  Then we split into two groups for an hour-long tour of the gardens.  Highlights included the formal English gardens, the Japanese garden (including waterfalls and koi fish pond), an edible garden, hosta gardens, Peter Rabbit's garden, and the Billy Goats Gruff bridge, troll included!

Information was sent home in Friday Folders about both of these venues.  The Arboretum has tons of free summer events for your whole family.  If you find yourself bored this summer, head over to the Arboretum, your child would love to show you around!

Dr. Seuss' Birthday Celebration was a fun day for all!!!

On March 2nd, our class celebrated Dr. Seuss' birthday. We started our day by creating Cat in the Hat treats, enough for both 3rd grades and all of the kindergartners.  Then we headed down the hall to kindergarten.  Each 3rd grader was paired up with one or two kindergartners and read a Dr. Seuss book aloud.  We also helped the kindergartners make Dr. Seuss hats, and finally we shared our red and white jello/whipped cream treats with them.  Everyone enjoyed our time with the kindergartners, and the third graders are all anxiously asking when we can return to read to them again!

The day continued as we explored the school, searching for fun places to read our Dr. Seuss books.  Look for our photos in the hallway under the title, "Oh, the Places You can Read!".  (The photos are also under the slide show tab on this site =)  In the afternoon our entire school had D.E.A.R. time in hallway, (Drop Everything and Read).  It was really cool to look up and down the hallway and see everyone reading!  Thanks again to Mrs. Benson and Mrs. Pascoe for helping to organize this fun day!

NEWSFLASH!

As you remember, the third graders gave up the traditional classroom Christmas gift exchange in order to collect toothbrushes and toothpastes to be donated to the CCHMP in Haiti. This week our supplies were delivered to a school in Haiti!!  Check out the photos in the slide show tab under Haiti donations. You can even see the card we made!  To get to the school, volunteers had to walk two miles, cross a lake, and hike another mile. Thanks again for your donations and for helping the third graders see that they truly can make a difference in the world!
