2011-2012 SCHOOL YEAR

As we approach the end of the year we have a lot going on, be sure to check the calendar for important dates of musical performances!

Mrs. Pisano's Music web page:

"The power of music to affect memory is quite intriguing. Mozart's music and baroque music, with a 60 beats per minute beat pattern, activate the left and right brain. The simultaneous left and right brain action maximizes learning and retention of information. The information being studied activates the left brain while the music activates the right brain. Also, activities which engage both sides of the brain at the same time, such as playing an instrument or singing, causes the brain to be more capable of processing information."

-Music and the Brain by Laurence O'Donnell

Teaching Philosophy:

Every student has strengths and talents.  It is my job to find these strengths and talents and build on them.  I strive to provide a safe and caring environment were students feel encouraged to reach their full potential and take chances.

Classroom Management:

If students are displaying good PAWS behavior they will get to move up the "scale." When a class reaches the top of the scale the students get to choose what activities we will do in their next music class.  If students have to be reminded about PAWS behavior they will receive a 1st Strike, at this point they will fill out a "think about it" form. On the 2nd Strike, the classroom teacher will be notified and an appropriate consequence will be given. On the 3rd Strike a note is sent home.

About me:

This is my 6th year at High Peaks.  As some may know I started my teaching career in General Education before becoming a music teacher and completed my Masters in Bilingual and Multi-Cultural Education at the University of Colorado at Boulder. I have been playing an instrument since I was 5 years old and attended the University of Colorado majoring in Oboe and music education as well as pursuing a license in general education. I love Colorado and being an active outdoors person. I have lived in Colorado all my life with my 5 other siblings. I am married with two dogs and two cats. My wonderful husband and I love to travel and experience different cultures and traditions.
