Legislative ALERT! (Please remember to check the Legislative Committee blogspot for legislative updates and pertinent articles related to EGRPS and public education in general: egrpseducationadvocates.blogspot.com ) EGRPS STANDS TO LOSE UP TO $900,000 IN FUNDING! The Legislature is pursuing another avenue to cut even more funding from our schools by reducing funding for part-time kindergartners. This proposal will have enormous consequences for East Grand Rapids Public Schools. Under this proposal, if we do not implement a full-day kindergarten program, EGRPS stands to lose an additional $900,000 over the cuts already handed down. If we do implement full day kindergarten, it will cost the district $450,000. Either way, our students suffer. The legislature is acting purely out of financial motives, not out of any concern for what is best for our young children. Please take a moment to read the following sample letters to legislators. If you agree with them, please cut and paste them (and feel free to make them your own) into separate emails and send them off to each of our legislators. They need to hear from you! 86th district LisaLyons@house.mi.gov (our current representative) 73rd district PeterMacGregor@house.mi.gov (our new representative following 2012 elections) 28th district senmjansen@senate.michigan.gov
