8th:  Review academic documents, then move on to digital photography, animation, and digital video

7th:  Microsoft Office software and introduction to animation

Students explore computer application software with the goal of learning technology tools for academic excellence, in preparation for high school and beyond.

All The Right Type 3:  Keyboarding using touch typing, increasing speed, and gaining accuracy.

Microsoft Paint:  Draw, paint, diagram, create backgrounds, resize objects, scale, rotate, and select objects.

Microsoft Word:  Desktop publishing, clip art, text editing using all text attributes and cut/copy/paste, columns, headers/footers, text styles, inserting objects with text wrap, drawing toolbar and object creation/editing/manipulation, formation of documents for success in academics: i.e. letters, mapping, outlines, essays, works cited, and use of online tools and resources such as grammer and spell checking.

Microsoft Excel:  Spreadsheet, data collection, manipulation, editing, cell/column/row/chart formatting, order & reorder, formulas, charts, editing charts and legends, and sorting on criteria.

Microsoft PowerPoint:  Multimedia presentations, static and animated clip art, programming custom animations, object layering, programming button functions, creation of original clip art, PowerPoint original animations, slide timers, sequencing animations, and use of different views.

Microsoft Publisher:  Page layout, working with text attributes, graphics, forms, templates, desktop publishing, business cards, newsletters, web page design and content.

Microsoft Access:  Database, tables, queries, field types, records, reports, forms, and creation, editing, and formatting.

Microsoft Internet Explorer:  Research techniques, searching techniques, Boolean logical operators, and internet safety.

Microsoft GIF Animator:  Create and edit GIFs.

Microsoft Movie Maker 2:  Video editing.

GIMP:  Software for digital photography, selection of areas, copy, cut and paste, layers, export to various file types/compressions, adjustment to colors/light/dark/contrast.

Other Free Software

Classroom Rules:
1.  No food or drinks, unless you have a health need.  Bottled water ok if kept on floor.
2.  Raise your hand for permission to speak.
3.  Respect people and property.
4.  Always do your best.
5.  Treat others as you would like to be treated.

If your student chooses to break a rule, teachers at Sequoia Middle School follow the rules and consequences posted in the Assignment Notebook.

Grades: 
10% keyboarding, 10% tests, 80% projects
1.  All grades are posted on Zangle as projects are completed--check back frequently.
2.  Absent students should make up work during keyboarding and are given an extra day to do so, and more time if requested.  Students may get extra help by coming into the lab before or after school.  Some days I am called to a meeting or need to take care of other tasks.  If not in lab, please check back later.

Homework: 
Any homework assignments will be noted by students in their Assignment Notebook.  Prior to any test, students will bring home a Study Guide which outlines material that will be on the test.  Students will be reviewed on test material during the class before any test.

Philosophy:
  Your student will be acquiring the knowledge and skills to use technology to problem solve, and to be a successful student in high school, college, and the work force.  The environment in my classroom is one of mutual respect.  I will work hard to try to ensure that your student is successful.
