About Me:

I have two boys that attend St. Francis, and I've always been a fan of this school. It's even better as a teacher here!

I LOVE reading! I've always loved reading, even as child, and my favorite book in 5th grade was probably "A Wrinkle in Time" or "Mrs. Frisby and the Rats of NIMH". Fantasy literature is always fun!

However, now I enjoy reading historical fiction, which is great because that is what we will be doing for fifth grade this year! Our Social Studies focus is on American History from the 1860's-1940's. That includes the Civil War, WWI and II, the Great Depression, and Immigration and Industrial Revolution. We will read about these historical events in history textbooks, AND enhance our understanding of the time period in history by reading a literature book that matches. This should be a really fun and interesting year where you will learn a lot more about yourself, and your history as an American.

Also, we will be doing quite a bit of writing- but don't worry. Most of it will be in the classroom, and you'll learn the basic rules for developing a paragraph, and just the practice of writing in daily journal entries, and going through the process of drafting, writing and revising for "published" pieces will become easier.  Who knows, maybe you will want to become a young author?

Additional stuff to know: I like learning about other people's cultures, and would love to travel to new places any chance I get. Thus, we will learn more about geography this year, in addition to the U.S. Presidents. I hope that you will be excited about fifth grade, and learning about people from our past, learn more things about our "culture", and more about those different people that came and brought their culture here to make us the great melting pot.
