1. Will you explain the arrival procedure?
There will not be any adult supervision before 7:30 a.m. If your child arrives between 7:30- 7:40 a.m. he/she will be asked to go to the cafeteria and wait for the 7:40 bell. Please have your child arrive no later than 7:40 each morning. At 7:40, your child will go to his or her classroom. Be sure and say “good-bye” in the car line, by the door to Pod 1, or right outside the classroom. Each child is responsible for unpacking his/her backpack, putting folders away, and beginning morning jobs. This helps build ownership and responsibility.
2. Please give more detail on being tardy, absences, and attendance.
Our day will begin at 7:50 a.m. If your child arrives after 7:50a.m., he/she is considered tardy and must sign in at the office. Your child cannot enter the classroom after 7:50 a.m. without an office pass. If your child arrives after 10:00 a.m. he/she will be considered absent for the day. Attendance is essential for success. We encourage that you have your child arrive at school on time each day. We understand situations do arise which prevent you from reaching this goal at times. Please call the front office if your child will be absent.
3. How does the lunch account work in the cafeteria?
Student Breakfast- $1.00
Student Lunch- $2.10
You may purchase lunches daily, by the week, month, or for the whole school year. Lunch accounts can be accessed online for pre-payment at www.friscoisd.org. We encourage each child to have a few dollars in their account as a safety net should they lose or forget their lunch. You may also take money directly to the cafeteria. For any other questions please refer to the website at www.friscoisd.org/departments/ChildNutrition .
4. Will my child eat a snack at school?
Yes, each afternoon we will have a snack time. Please have your child bring his/her snack each day. Snacks need to be in a separate container or baggie from his/her lunch. Your child will keep their snack in the backpack until it is snack time. We suggest bringing healthy snacks. Some suggestions include: fruit, fruit snacks, carrot sticks, goldfish crackers, trail mix, cheese crackers, yogurt, granola bars, etc. Please provide any necessary utensils, plates, or napkins. If you will be sending a drink, please make sure it has a lid.
5. What time do you go to recess?
Kindergarten goes to recess at 11:30. The children will play outdoors for approximately 30 minutes each day (unless weather is bad). Please keep this in mind when helping your child to select clothing for the day. If your child is too sick to play outdoors, he/she is too sick to come to school. There is no supervision available for children to stay indoors at recess.
6. Is there a rest time in Kindergarten?
Each day we will have a quiet/reading time for 30 minutes. This is a time for your child to rest, read quietly, or enjoy listening to quiet music. They may bring a towel to lie on that can be kept in their backpack.
7. How do you handle birthdays at school and invitations to parties outside of school?
If you would like to send cupcakes or cookies for your child’s birthday, you may leave them in the front office and we will enjoy them at our regular snack time. Please make sure to ONLY send store bought cupcakes or cookies. Homemade items cannot be brought into the classroom due to food safety and Hazard Analysis Critical Control Point (HACCP) requirements.
If you chose to send birthday invitations to be passed out, please be sure there is one for every child in the class. They will be passed out in blue folders.
8. How many school parties will we have this year?
There are 3 class parties each year. We will have a winter, Valentines, and end of the year party. The parties will be planned and prepared by the Kindergarten room moms.
9. When will report cards go home?
Report cards will be sent home every nine weeks. Please read and sign your child’s report card envelope and return to the teacher. The report card is your copy to keep.
10. What are daily folders?
A blue folder will go home with your child each day. In the folder you will find a calendar, completed work, and notes to parents. Please check your child’s blue folder each day and clean out the papers. Please be sure to initial the calendar each night.
11. Can my child bring toys to school in their backpack?
Toys are not to be brought to school unless there is a requested note from your child’s teacher.
12. How can I volunteer?
There are many volunteer opportunities throughout the year. Check with your child's teacher for specifics.
13. Do I need to check in when I come up to the school to visit or volunteer?
Yes, when visitors and volunteers check-in, or parents come to pick up students, they will be asked to present a valid state issued ID for entering into the system. The system has the ability to provide alerts on people who may jeopardize the safety of our campus. Each person will need to have their valid state ID scanned one time into the system. This will create a record for you to serve as a campus visitor/volunteer.
14. How do I volunteer to help on field trips?
Before attending a field trip, the K teachers will send home volunteer forms. Once we have verified that a background check has been done we will confirm your spot on the field trip.
Parents may follow the buses to the field trip site. Unfortunately, parents are not permitted to ride the bus.
