Essential Learnings

What are Essential Learnings?

Essential Learnings identify what third grade students are expected to have mastered by the end of the school year. The Essential Learnings were created by looking at our district curriculum frameworks and state standards. Each subject area has an Essential Learning including literacy, math, science, and social studies.

It is important for students and families to be aware of these Essential Learnings as they are expected to master them. I post objectives in my classroom for each subject area and we refer to these objectives often so that students understand what they are learning and how the goals build upon their mastery of the  Essential Learnings. I assess students informally and formally on these objectives so that I can measure their progress towards mastering the Essential Learnings and guide my future instruction.
