VCS Shared Decision-Making Volunteer Opportunities Information and Parent Application
Parent Volunteers Needed

PARENT INVOLVEMENT- WE VALUE IT!

Victor Central Schools recognize and value the many ways that parents volunteer their time to support Victor students.  Please consider serving as a parent representative on a shared decision-making council or committee.

As a member of a Shared Decision-Making Council, you make a difference!  The District truly benefits from your feedback and help with decision-making and problem solving issues in our schools while bringing different points of view from parents to the meetings.

What is a Council?

Each District building has a council that plans, implements, monitors and evaluates decisions directly related to improving student achievement, as well as a students' physical, social and emotional well-being.  In addition to the Building Councils, parents can serve on District and Curriculum Council as well as other committees.

What am I expected to do?

           Attend Council meetings

Focus on decision making for all children

Share out information from Council meetings with PTSA, PIE and VOICE

           Seek ideas from other parents

Bring the issues and concerns of all parents to Council meetings

Be prepared to make the necessary time commitment

Be flexible and work well with people

Participate in 2 hour district-provided training in early September

Be aware that confidential issues should be handled appropriately

Who sits on a Council?

All parents/guardians of student(s) attending Victor schools are eligible. To serve as a member of an individual school’s Building Council, a parent must have a student in attendance at that school. The Councils include parents, teachers, support staff and administrators.

How often do the councils meet?

Councils generally meet once a month. Meeting times and dates are determined collaboratively by the members of each council to ensure opportunity for participation by all.

How are parents selected for council?

Victor Central School District Parent, Teacher, Student Association (PTSA), Partners In Education (PIE) and Victor’s Outreach In Children’s Education (VOICE) work together to select parent representatives for our district’s shared decision-making groups.

If you are interested in serving, please complete the application/agreement and submit it by May 1 to:  Any VCS Building Main Office - ATTN:  Parent Representative Nominating Committee (PRNC) (or) electronically via email to:  daysjersey97@yahoo.com.  Late applications will be accepted, but priority will be given to applications in the order they are received.
