Grade 8 Art Welcome to grade 8 art class. I'm trilled to have you again in the classroom as we continue to learn more about the visual arts while studying about master artists, cultures and the application of artists materials. If you've not already done so, check out the link Grade 8 Art Semester 1 to see what your peers created the first half of the year. My Color Wheel As we start this semester, the students will review their knowledge of the color wheel and they will be creating their own personal color wheel. Students will be designing the look of their own color wheel, but sticking to the basics as we learn how to mix the paints. Students are encouraged to be creative! We all know what a basic color wheel looks like, but let's see what the students can do to make it their own. Click here to view some photographs of this project in action. Landscape Paintings in Acrylic Paint Now that we've learned how to create the color wheel using only the three primary colors, students will be put to the test on their paint mixing skills. Students will use only the three primary colors, with the addition of black and white to create their landscape paintings. The trick to create the depth and perspective accurately in paint is to learn how to blend the colors either on the palette or canvas or both. Students work from the background to their foreground to complete their paintings. Success is in the air. Click here to see their work in action. Celebrity Value Paintings First semester 8th grade students painted their favorite celebrities in acrylic paint and due to popular demand, the second semester student will do the same project. Students are choosing their celebrity and leaning how to posterize their image in photoshop. Back in the classroom, we are drawing the image onto canvas board and painting in the values. Click here to see their progress. Self Portrait Prints
We looked at the work of Andy Warhol and his famous tomato soup can prints for inspiration. We then created a simple line drawing of our own face and transferred it to a printing plate. We are printing in small groups and loving the results. Here are some of their prints.
