Pre-K News....

I would like to extend a special thank you to the guest speakers who shared their careers with us during Catholic School's Week:  Craig O'Connor, Cate Engle, Matt Murphy, and Greg Maciulla.  The children learned about recyling plastic, printing, safety, and construction while enjoying the many hands on materials the speakers shared with them.  It was great to see so many parents and grandparents visit last week to see first hand what the children are learning in Pre-K!  Thank you for taking the time to visit.

We will learn about the letter R this week and practice rhyming words.  Please check your child's folder on Monday for two field trip permission forms.  We would like to take a walking trip to the post office this Friday (weather permitting) to mail our valentines.  Also, on March 5th, we would like to visit the Maryland Theater to see the production of Skippyjon Jones.  Parents are welcome to join us for the theater.  The cost for tickets is $8.50 each.  I need to reserve the exact number of seats in advance and have to give them the exact count by Friday.  I MUST have permission slips and money back by Friday in order for you and/or your child to attend with the group. I appreciate your support with this and hope you can attend.  Please remember there is no school for Pre-K this Wednesday.

Continue to review the letters and sounds from Aa - Qq.  Ask your child to be a letter detective and find the letters in print as you travel or shop (store fronts, cereal boxes, etc.)  Play different letter games.

*Find the letter your first name begins with.

*Pick an uppercase letter and find the matching lowercase letter.

*Choose one of the letters and think of words that begin with that letter.

*Say a word and find its beginning letter.

*Spell your name.

*Trace letters on your child's back and have him/her guess the letter or have your child practice writing the letters on your back and enjoy a mini massage as he/she erases the letters!

Have fun!

Notes and Reminders...

We go to the library on Fridays.  Please return your library book by Thursday each week.  (The librarian is only here on Tuesdays and Thursdays to check in books.)

Show and Tell is on Fridays.  Please help your child choose something that begins with the letter of the week.

Be sure to check your child's bookbag every day!

*If there is a 2 hour delay due to weather, there is NO Pre-K that day.

Permission slips and money for the Maryland Theater is due by Friday.  Checks should be made payable to SMCS.

Dates to Remember....

There will be no school for Pre-K on Wednesday, February 8th.  Mrs. McDermott, Sister Aloysius, and I will be attending the 2012 Conference for Maryland Pre-Kindergarten Teachers.

We will be having a Valentine's Day party on Tuesday, February 14th.  The children will be exchanging valentines.  Just have your child sign their name on their valentines...they will put one in each child's bag. Please do not have them address the cards!

Pre-K Parent/Teacher Conferences will be scheduled for Friday, March 23rd.  There will be no school for Pre-K students that day. More information will be sent home at a later date.

Please feel free to contact me if you have any questions or concerns throughout the year.  The best way to reach me is through email; however, you can always call the school and leave a message and I will return your call as soon as possible.
