America is blessed with a diverse cultural heritage!

We are currently working on Unit 8: Immigration.

Our next test is Friday, May, 11.  It will cover outlines from lessons 1-3

We will also be working on an immigration Heritage Collage:

Immigrants came to America for a variety of reasons: to escape tyranny and religious persecution, to acquire land and wealth, to seek adventure, and to start a new life in a new land.  Immigrants did much of the hard work that helped the United States grow.  They also contributed important aspects of their cultures to create a vibrant American culture. 

Unless you are 100 percent Native American your background will have a story that probably includes the immigration of your family to America. 

 

Students are asked to talk their parents and find from which country or countries your family came from.  Are there any special stories your family tells about how they came to live in the U.S.?  Did your family change their name or the spelling of their name?

 

*The students will make a list of all the countries from which your family came.

        This will be written on the back of the collage.

*Find 10 pictures, words, flags, maps, monuments, landmarks, recipes, sports, sports teams, animals, dogs, coats of arms, food pictures, cars, restaurants, money, etc. that symbolize that country. (At least 10) Some people last year even found newspaper articles and passenger lists.

*Bring items to class to assemble into a collage that describes your family’s heritage.

(Make sure all items are available to be cut and pasted, if you use real photos make copies of them)

*The work for the assembly of this project will be done In Class.

*The pictures for the collage will be gathered AT HOME.         

 These items are due on Monday, May 14.
