Prerequisites:
It is recommended that you have successfully completed the following courses:
1. The Living Environment
2. Earth Science
3. Chemistry
4. Geometry
Class Requirements:
1. Be prepared for class
2. Everything must be typed other than in class assignments. If you do not have access to a computer, you need to find access immediately.
Class Behavior and Expectations:
1. You are taking a college level class. Act like it.
2. Do not be absent. Do not be late.
3. Obtain a professional e-mail address that you will regularly use to send me assignments.
4. Turn your work in on time. If it is late, don’t bother.
5. Follow all school rules
Grading Policy:
1. Labs 25%
2. Projects and Tests 40%
3. Quizzes 20%
4. In class work and Homework 15%
Review Books:
We will use 1-2 review books in class that the school will provide. I advise using as many as you can. AP Exams are very different from the Regents exams.
This class will consist of a variety of different teaching methods. You will be responsible for teaching a portion of the material to the class. You will be responsible for staying on schedule with you readings, even if we fall behind in class.
Some Examples of Projects for the Course:
1) Lab Summary Presentation.- Each student will be responsible for one* laboratory activity to present. The presentation will include a PowerPoint presentation of a summary of the lab, formal lab report, clearly identified hypothesis, objectives, materials, conclusion, etc. Labs must include pictures of the class actually performing the lab activities; pictures of the lab set up, pictures of the materials used. The PowerPoint and report must be e-mailed to the instructor.
2) Ecological summary project- Each student will choose an ecological issue and perform genuine scientific inquiry using reliable sources.
