MATH UPDATE: his week we will wrap up our Geometry Unit. We have learned a lot about attributes of Polygons and 3-D shapes. Come check out our shapes we made while learning about inserting text boxes and pictures into Microsoft Word. This week we continue our partnership investigations on quadrangles, in particular the differences and similarities between a rectangle, square and rhombus. What makes a square so special anyway?
INQUIRY & LITERACY UPDATE: Our Folktale Unit is in full swing. We are exploring different kinds of folktales: fables, legends, trickster tales and pour quoi tales that explain how things came to be in nature. We are studying the elements of folktales and what they teach us about a culture. We are also making connections in writer’s workshop, looking particularly at organization and how most stories have a problem for the main character or characters to solve, which is somehow resolved at the end. We are also focusing on the aspect of the oral tradition of folktales, this week telling folktales orally with our Reader’s Theater groups.
