THANK YOU AND WELCOME TO ST. AMBROSE SCHOOL

Dear New Parents,

First of all, I am appreciative that you've chosen St. Ambrose School as the place for your child to receive their education.  I promise to do all I can to make our school a place where you and your child will be happy and confident.  You, the teachers, and I must cooperatively work together in your child's best interest to ensure that this will happen.

My office door is normally open during the school day.  If ever there is a concern, please don't hesitate to ask to see me.  You may also call me at 785-6453 if it is more convenient for you to do so.  I am normally in my office by at 6:50 a.m.  I have found that most parents find it most convenient to meet with me before the start of the school day.  Remember, it is not usually necessary to make an appointment.  I prefer to discuss concerns with you immediately rather than have to have you worry about it for the entire day.

I am sure you have some questions about your first few days in a new school.  If you are unable to find the answers to your questions in our school handbook or on our website, call the school office at 785-6453.  Our school secretary or I will be glad to help you.  Remember, too, that you can come to school to visit me during the summer.  It is best to call beforehand to make sure that the school office is open and someone will be here to help you.  During the summer, our hours are shorter.  During July, the school office will be open on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday at 10:00 a.m.  In August, office hours will be more regular.  Again, though, I suggest that during the summer you call beforehand and set up an appointment.

The first day of school is Wednesday, September 7th.  School starts at 8:15, but please make sure that your child is in their classroom school no later than 8:05 a.m. so that he or she will have time to prepare for the 8:15 start of instruction.  You may drop your child off as early as 7:15 a.m. Students who arrive between 7:15 - 8:00 a.m. should report to the school library where they will be supervised until it is time for them to report to class.

Please, when bringing your child to school, do not drive your car on the circular drive directly in front of the school.  You must walk from the parking lot to the main entrance of the school. The biggest concern and complaint I hear each year is that a parent drove on the circular driveway during the morning arrival time. There have been occasions when our students and their parents have nearly been hit by drivers who do not follow this safety rule.  Our students and parents must cross this driveway when they enter the school building. Please inform me if you see someone driving on the circular driveway during the arrival or depature times.  I will contact them at their home or job immediately.

Students should wear their regular school uniform (no gym attire) on the first day of school, Wednesday, September 7.   Call the school office if you need information as to where to purchase the school uniform.  Don't worry if your daughter's school uniform hasn't arrived before the start of the school year.  This sometimes happens, especially if you register late in the summer.  Just be sure she is dressed in appropriate attire until her uniform arrives.  Boys uniforms are much easier to purchase at any department store.  Keep in mind that whenever your child is unable to wear the correct uniform to school, I would like to be informed beforehand. If that is not possible, your child should bring a note to me explaining the reason why.

If this upcoming 2011-2012 school year is going to be your first year at St. Ambrose School, I suggest that you visit this website regularly.  On August 23rd, our pre-kindergarten, kindergarten, and first grade students and parents may come to school to visit their new classrooms and meet their new teachers.  Also, on August 23 as well as on August 24, there will be a slightly-used uniform sale in our school lobby.

Again, I am looking forward to seeing you and welcoming your child to St. Ambrose School.

God bless,

Mr. Jim Leveskas

Principal
