Grade 10 SPEC Conferences
|
|
The Grade 10 SPEC (Student & Parent Educational/Career) Conference focuses on progress towards a student’s personal/social growth, academic/career development, and looking ahead to the future as he/she transitions from high school eventually into a career. Emphasis is placed on a review of the student’s talents, hopes & dreams, abilities, interests, academic performance, Career Portfolio Review, Career Cruising results, college &/or career goals, and the college admission process. Parents/Guardians are a key member of the conference team. SPEC Conferences are specifically designed conferences for parents/guardians to gain insight into their child’s development and for students to gain insight into the direction they are headed in the future. Our task is to determine how we can help them create and achieve broadly based goals for their future. Conferencing provides parent(s)/guardian(s) the opportunity to discuss their child’s talents, abilities and interests in a positive atmosphere and to develop a Post-High School Plan. SPEC Conferences are not intended for discussions of student’s behavior issues. If desired, behavior issues can be discussed during a future counseling appointment. Facilitated by the school counselor, Grade 10 SPEC Conferences are scheduled during the school day from 7:45 AM until 3:15 PM. The length of the conference is typically 40 minutes and includes the parent(s)/guardian(s) and the student.
