Career Exploration

|
Career exploration is a very important aspect of the high school counseling program. In the School District of Crandon, we utilize the website Career Cruising. This is a great site to explore careers and colleges. In Grade 10 the counselor meets with students in Grade 10 and a parent/guardian. These Student and Parent Educational and Career (SPEC) Conferences look at the students' short term goals, accomplishments, strengths, college and career goals. The counselor meets with each student individually to create a schedule for the following school year. During this time, we look at the students' pathways of study: what careers are they interested in. The goal is to have the students take all the classes they can here at Crandon High School that prepares them for college and the working world. The counselor also goes into the classroom to build the students' career portfolios. We use the Career Cruising website for their electronic portfolios. During classroom time, students investigate careers, what courses are encouraged for that career, what major they should pursue in college, and what colleges offer that major. Students also utilize the Wisconsin Career Pathways website to research careers and colleges in Wisconsin.
